All those walkers heading off to Caerlaverock to look at the birds. We saw Ring Ouzels, Golden Eagles and Peregrine Falcons. You don’t believe me, I can’t think why. One thing is true, to see much of anything on this walk you had to have a very good imagination, most of the walk was spent in low cloud, drizzle and hail. Eight of us set off up the climb of Gatescarth pass then onto Branstree. Yes, generally it was a pretty grim affair, but as someone said ‘we didn’t buy all that waterproof gear for nothing’. Days like these test the walking spirit which remained high. Onto selside pike and for a about 15 seconds the cloud parted and i got a pic of it, testament to my highly tuned photographic talent (imagination running wild again). On getting down there were some views of Haweswater along with full and spectacular waterfalls. Still a good day out and thanks to those who came along to test their gear. Tea at the Haweswater Hotel put spirits back on track for Sundays offering, and on the way out I saw a robin.
