Twenty-thre intrepid walkers braved the chill wind at Copshaw Holm and set off for the forest. We soon warmed up as we climbed along the minor road, pausing only to don waterproof gear as one of the day's showers blew in from the west. On the whole, the weather gods were kind, and the sun shone on us at important times (banana breaks, lunch stop, etc). As we arrived at the forest a passing red kite clearly couldn't believe its eyes, but decided there wasn't enough meat on any of us to hold its interest. We had some lovely views of Liddesdale as we went along the tracks and paths, and the botanists in the group were pleased to spot, among others, orchids, bugle and birdsfoot trefoil.
It was generally agreed to have been a most enjoyable walk - no stiles, and minimal mud! The staff of the Olive Tree cafe coped manfully with the huge influx of customers. Many thanks to them, to all of you for coming, and especially, as always, to Anne for backmarking so capably and for generally keeping me right!
