Heip Hill and Borthaugh, Hawick

On a lovely, sunny morning fifteen of us drove up the lovely Ewes valley and down Teviotdale to Hawick's Common Haugh car park; and what a jolly bunch we were! - not even the long haul up Heip Hill could dampen spirits.  There was much discussion regarding the meaning of 'Heip', which came to no firm conclusion ( subsequent research revealed no definite answer – it seems it may be a corruption of 'Heap”, which leaves us little enlightened!).

The perfect weather conditions enhanced the walk; Hawick has never looked lovelier than in the view of the town from the hill!  Even the cattle were too relaxed to pay much attention to a bunch of chatting and laughing ramblers.

Many thanks to you all for making this a friendly, sociable walk and makin the leader's job so easy.  Thanks, too, to Ken for his advice at critical moments, and to Karen in the cafe, who was working her socks off, having been left on her own, but never stopped smiling
