Carlisle & District Rambling & Fellwalking Club

Walk & Event Reports

.

Twenty one intrepid members of Carlisle Rambling Club set off from Wetheral to face whatever the Cumbrian mud could throw at them.
They put up a valiant effort but had to admit defeat shortly after Scotby.
The decision was taken to beat a tactical retreat directly back to Wetheral by an alternative footpath. Unfortunately Mother Nature had another trick in store in the form of a raging torrent where a small stream and a footbridge should be.
A dis-spirited party set off to retrace their steps but before doing so took advantage of the facilities at Scotby Shield Farm to take a well earned lunch break.
At this point our knight in shining armour, in the form of Dick Percival the owner of the farm, appeared and offered to take us across the swollen beck in the back of his van.
A group of very nervous rambler’s boarded the back of the van and thankfully were transported across the water for a safe return to Wetheral.
The leader was forgiven once everyone had enjoyed tea and cake at The Animal Refuge Tea Room.

Many thanks to everyone there for their patience and good humour.
