Walk & Event Reports

A fine drizzle in Langholm did not bode well, but the weather picked up as we left Eskdale and descended into Teviotdale.  The sixteen brave souls who ventured north were rewarded by a largely dry walk, and the promised views over Hawick and the valley appeared as we climbed.
A helpful cable-layer unpadlocked a gate for us at the electricity substation, and caused some amusement by claiming he was excavating a new swimming pool for the town.  The cows and calves on the open hillside kept a respectful distance, and some of us were lucky enough to hear yellowhammers singing in the whin bushes.
A light rain began towards the end of the walk, but the Rain Gods were kind enough to delay the downpour until we were safely ensconced in the welcoming Pavilion Cafe (which does a lovely bacon roll). Many thanks to all of you for being such a good group, to Anne for backmarking, and to Ian for his expertise in helping deal with the most diabolically complicated gate-opening mechanism that I have ever encountered!
Haste ye back
