Walk & Event Reports

.

Ten intrepid walkers ignored the dire warnings about the imminent arrival of Storm Agnes and set off in pleasant conditions.  An early lunch was enjoyed by the Black Burn before we tackled the only serious ascent of the day to investigate the world-renowned (and well-signposted) Newcastleton Niagara Falls, known locally as the Blackburn Falls.
In view of the deteriorating weather conditions, we ventured only to the first of the falls, the Hog Gill Spout (you could see it if you really tried!) before descending to the woodland path above the village, made somewhat treacherous by the now wet tree roots and wooden walkways.  Welcome refreshments awaited in the Olive Tree Cafe.

Many thanks to all who ventured north, and especially to Sheila, who came all the way from the Deep South just to join us (!?).

Haste Ye Back
