Despite a few gremlins with the website nineteen hardy souls turned up to walk a section of Hadrian’s Wall. We left the Twice Brewed Inn in dull weather. We passed the Steel Rigg car park and the turned right onto a track which ran parallel with Hadrian’s Wall. The weather closed in and we found ourselves in a light fog. The views were somewhat obscured but we managed to find the required path and the required ration of mud. We eventually turned onto a short section of the Pennine Way which in turn led us to Hadrian’s Wall.

The weather started to improve, the mist cleared and the Northumbrian views started to show themselves.

We proceeded along the wall path and following lunch we arrived at “Sicker Moor Gap” (old Latin spelling). At his point the group split up, seven persons taking the low road and twelve took the high road which is steep and can be slippery following the wet weather.

We all met up and returned to the Twice Brewed Inn for coffee.

We left with a new prospective on the history of the Romans in Northumbria.
