Report & Photos by Nancy McLure

19 walkers met on a dry morning and proceeded through the New Toun of Langholm gradually climbing Meikleholm. From there we went through the gate and climbed Timpen encountering the first of many bogs! From the trig point with lovely views , we found the driest route to Black Knowe, the highest point at 326m. Then we platched along looking for a dry and sheltered spot for lunch. This we found admiring the wind turbines! From there the route took us along the Calfield Ridge encountering cows which were thankfully intimidated by Ken and then we carefully negotiated the tricky section reaching the Crab Apple Loaning where there were actually a few trees laden with crab apples. There was mud galore around the Becks Burn and we soon reached the Buccleuch Centre after seeing clearing work taking place in the very neglected garden of a Buccleuch Estates cottage which we often pass.
