29 of us set off from Penruddock on the Thackthwaite - Ullswater walk, nick-named the stile walk due to the numerous barriers to be negotiated. The brighter ones saw the option of opening adjacent gates - Ken and crew, while the leader misled the rest over the walls. Calls were made for the leader’s resignation but all was forgiven when the fabulous views appeared. Walking through Thackthwaite we were impressed by the grand houses, gardens and amazingly well turned out horses in their five star stables. Lunch was taken overlooking mellow autumnal Ullswater with clear views to the Pennines. Some purchased fresh produce at the roadside honesty box before we set off on a slight detour and back to the cars via Sparket Mill. The autumn weather was perfect, the photographer snapped away and the leader got it almost right. Everyone appeared to have great fun and banter. We ended a wonderful day having tea at Rheged. Thanks to all. It was a great day.
