Martindale Deer Rut Walk
Leader Pete Rutland

12 of us took the overcast and misty drive from Carlisle. Martindale was like another world. The weather was warm and sunny and we were soon stripping off ( not totally). We headed up the valley and then the long climb up to Heckbeck Head. We were rewarded with over 20 deer running ahead of us before disappearing somewhere toward Boredale. It was then to Angle Tarn for lunch, the tarn looking amazing in the winter sun.
Coming down below Heck crag on the rocky mountain track there were more sightings of deer in the valley and over on the Nab. Probably a couple of weeks late for the actual Rut, but a lovely walk in brilliant weather. Finished in the Cafe in Pooley Bridge for afternoon tea. Thanks to everyone who came out.
