High Pike

Leader: Geoff Entwistle

Report by Geoff Entwistle

9 members enjoyed a pleasant but breezy ascent of High Pike. Starting from Calbeck we initially went on field paths and minor roads to Hudscales Farm, from where old mine tracks led us to Stott Ghyll mine. An ascending route, east of Old Fell took us to the open fellside and then to the summit of High Pike. We had good views of the nearby hills, only the very highest peaks being in the clouds, and we all managed to find some shelter from the wind for our lunch. The descent, initially on footpaths and then on old mine tracks, was via Potts Gill mine and Nether Row. Minor roads and field paths took us back to Caldbeck and welcome refreshments.
