17 travelling from Carlisle this morning with two others meeting at or near the start point at Great Wood car park. The walk started by following the lakeside via Friar's Crag to the landing stages at Keswick (still partly under water). Wonderful blue skies with lovely views across the lake. The snow level on the hills was around 1800 ft so we were treated to a particularly fine contrast between the bright green and brown of the lower fells and the white of the tops. From Keswick we made our way to the top of Castle Head where we paused to admire again the fine views from this elevated position. We then took the road and track towards Walla crag passing two notices warning of collapsed bridges (fortunately not on our route) and then followed the stiff climb to the summit of Walla Crag where we paused for lunch. From there it was mostly down hill to Ashness Bridge followed by a pleasant walk back to the car park. This is always a beautiful walk and today it was made even more so by the weather.
