Carlisle & District Rambling & Fellwalking Club

Walk & Event Reports

After taking the 9.54 train from Carlisle, we alighted in Annan and took the exit away from the town. A short walk along sunny Elm Street brought us to the Back o' the Hill (a short assent but with plenty of complaints) before we dropped gently down to a road with fabulous views over the Solway. We took a causeway footpath through the salt marshes to a memorial for Robert Burns who was the exciseman at port Annan that stands above slipway on the estuary of the river Annan. We returned to the town on a lane through the marshes, meeting many friendly locals and their dogs on the way. A coffee and a bite to eat was enjoyed before we returned to Carlisle on the train
