B Walk - Carrock Fell & High Pike
7 miles Grade 2
Leader: Chris Tyson
Report & Photos by Chris Tyson

Five brave souls joined the leader, ignoring the perhaps dubious weather forecast of a fine sunny day. The climb up Carrock Fell from the road near Stone Ends Farm allows no time for warming up, starting steep and getting steeper. The weather forecast was right, however, although there was a stiff breeze when the top was reached. With the hard work done, the party could enjoy the long elevated walk to High Pike, with an excellent view south to Blencathra and Skiddaw. Even the odd boggy stretch was wasily negotiated. The descent to the ford over the minor road to Hesket Newmarket must be one of the pleasantest in the area, being on a gentle grassy path with a fine panoramic view ahead to the Pennines. Only the last couple of hundred yards looks forbidding through high bracken and gorse but in reality is quite easy. The whiskey and marmalade ice cream at the Old Smithy at Caldbeck was  a revelation.
