Once again a beautiful day – till we started walking at least,  and then we felt the strong wind. 9 of us led by an anonymous ex policeperson (known only as PR to safeguard him against the rumoured new mind reading developments from North Korea) – tackled the beautiful round of the hills above Crummock Water.  PR assured everybody that 90% of the climbing came in the first slope – the approach to the ridge – and is now facing possible legal action as a result of his fraudulent claims.  The party included the ladies in training for Machu Picchu,  as well as Jo Agnew who,  though a regular on the Wednesday walks,  was on her first Sunday “A” walk.  Lovely to have you on board,  Jo,  and we all hope you will come again;  so refreshing to have a bit of class.  Despite the false description of the walk,  it was superb.  The initial climb was steep but the wind was right behind us and we made amazingly good time to the top.  Then along the ridge itself – in perfect condition,  very dry and giving a perfect grip to vibram soles.  We reached Hopegill Head in no time,  and then down to Coledale Hause to have lunch by the stream.  From there it was on to Wandope – which seems to have been added as an afterthought when the volcanos cooled down  (400m years ago or whenever) to satisfy the Munro / Wainwright / whatever else baggers.  Down then to Rannerdale Knott where the party split – several down to Buttermere for the café and the car drivers back to Lanthwaite Green to collect the cars.  One notable event on the walk which involved a new member of the group – the anonymous ex police person was presented with a special prize for his services to walk leading – a pink Peter Piglet (cf the photos) who was then carried round in the leader’s rucksack with an excellent view of all that went on.  The said Peter Piglet is now going to be a non-fee paying member, bag all the Wainwrights (he already has Wandope, Hopegill Head and Whiteless) and if he becomes a sort of mascot for the club and has the same appeal as his close relation,  Peppa,  the club could be in line for a few hundred million.  Thanks to PR for leading an excellent walk.
