B Walk

Tindale Fells

8 Miles Grade 4

Leader: John Mckay

Report & Photos by John Mckay

Seven of us set off from the Geltsdale Bird Sanctuary Car Park on a dry, sunny but rather windy day.

Fortunately the wind soon dropped and we had perfect walking conditions.

We had three potential new members on the walk, Charlotte, Julie and Fiona so I was on my best behaviour, as always. We also saw the return of Lorna, back out again after her mammoth house conversion project. The outward section of the walk went to plan. We stopped off at the RSPB Visitor Centre and were surprised to find an art exhibition, with some lovely and unusual ceramic artwork on show. Lunch was taken in the ruins of the old smelter at Tindale, as I was informed by Stephen.  The inward section of the walk did not go to plan, we came back on a different route from the one intended but it was a real stroke of luck. It was a lovely route, one I’ve never done before and much better than the one intended. A wonderful walk, some great “crack” a whole range of topics being discussed, Chocolate Digestives and being bitten on the bum by a police dog to name a couple and a few others I couldn’t possibly mention. We rounded off the day with a visit to the Hayton Farm Shop for refreshments. Many thanks to all those that came along and making it such a great day.
