Ian's Report

.

Only seven A walkers this week but we were joined by two “free range” club walkers who had made their own way to Clapham. Despite a not too promising weather forecast the day steadily improved and the top of Ingleborough stayed clear of clouds. The steady climb over the renowned limestone upland was rewarded with extensive views from the summit and time for conversations with other walkers from Manchester and Leeds including one five year old who, his dad told us, had already climbed Snowden and was aiming to do Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis before his sixth birthday. Unfortunately he wasn’t from Carlisle so I couldn’t sign him up as a walk leader. Special mention to Cathy and Jim who did the extra summit of Simon Fell. There was time for a peer down into Gaping Gill and the always interesting descent through Trow Gill before tea and cakes in lovely Clapham.

A grand Yorkshire day out.

Graham and I agreed to simply combine our two walks and so 15 hardy souls set off at approx 10:45am from the pretty village of Clapham into limestone country. A heavy mist initially hung over the fells but this quickly cleared and the weather just got better and better for rambling. Arrived back at  3pm and instead of our usual watering hole, which had closed early, we all gravitated to a nice little tea-shop 50yds along to the road. We counted them all out and counted them in. All appeared to have enjoyed the day. Back in Carlisle by six.
