Walk & Event Reports

Listening to Radio 4 yesterday I totally agreed with the speaker who questioned the reason why most tourists head for Stonehenge when they can enjoy the serenity, solitude and history of Hadrian’s Wall. Other Walkers along the wall today were very envious when they realised that this was our local stomping ground.

7 of us completed the 9 mile route which I extended to include the ancient Coombe Woodland, Coombe Crag, The Graffiti Stone and the stunning Irthing River Gorge.

We had a great day- plenty of sunshine, bull free fields, squirrels (sadly not red), conveniently placed honesty boxes (including Pot Noodles!!), great scenery and even a gyrating dog providing the lunch time entertainment.

Alfresco refreshments were enjoyed at a busy Lanercost Tea room where half of us did manage to resist the amazing cakes.

Thanks to everyone who made it despite the short notice-sometimes staying local is best-especially on a busy Bank Holiday.
