A Walk

Seatallan from Wasdale

Leader: David Bulman

Twelve made the journey to Wasdale - including two new recruits, Andrew and Stephen, happy in the knowledge that Saturday's bad weather had passed and we were off to enjoy this wonderful area which, although not remote , are normally very quiet, and so it proved as we did not meet another soul all day so apart from our own cheery chatter these Wainwrights gave uninterrupted memorable views of the surrounding higher mountains, Wastwater and Ravenglass estuary. After the initial pull up Middle Fell and many stops to admire the unfolding vista we enjoyed a break on the top. We then had to lose a bit of height before tackling the very steep slope of Seatallen and the heighest point of the day at 692 mtrs where we had lunch. After that a leisurely stroll took us to Cat Bields, Glade How and the attractive rocky top of Buckbarrow. As we began our descent to the road a solitary bird call was identified by Andrew as a Ring Ouzel - quite a rare bird so that was a bonus. Parking in Gosforth on the way home we set off in search of refreshments and on the 3rd attempt settled for The Globe, apparently the only place where you can get a 'proper coffee' although some were tempted by Wainwrights Gold!

Many thanks to everyone.
