Mirehouse to Cockermouth

Leader: Roger Tringham

Report: Roger Tringham

Eleven on the A walk today. The coach dropped us at Mirehouse and we set off at ten am in blustery but dry weather, passing St Bega's church by the side of Bassenthwaite, before entering and walking through the first of several plantations on our route. After crossing some muddy fields we turned down to the lakeside across some necessary boardwalks and followed the path from Bowness bay to Scarness bay and then to Scarness. The path continues all the way to the road near Armathwaite Hall where we cleared some debris caused by Friday's storm. We continued past the wildlife park detouring at one point around a fallen tree and reached Isel church for a lunch stop in the porch shortly after one pm. During lunch the rain came, as forecast, and we then followed road, track and fields into Cockermouth for  welcome tea and cake. Thanks to everyone who came for good company. I hope you have dried out!
