We were blessed with a day of warm sunshine and no wind, between past and promised days of rain and cold winds. Sixteen of us made the most of it and enjoyed the spring woods of the Tynewatersmeet SSSI which were full of birdsong, new leaves, wood anemones and wild garlic. Lunch by the river was a pleasure. On the way back to Hexham we stopped off near Acomb at the church of St John of Beverley at St John in the Lee before retracing our steps of the morning. There was time for a welcome cuppa and a mooch round Hexham. Many thanks to Catherine and Fiona for backmarking
