Strangely, no A walkers today except Andy the leader. He was quite pleased, having come straight from working a night shift, he was glad to go home to bed. No such luck for me, seven at the Sands and Ken and Anne waiting at Ckesketts Car Park, not a bad turn out for Xmas Eve. We made our way though the quarry, it was dry but very windy and of course extremely muddy. We passed through Howgill, stopping to say hello to three little donkeys before arriving at the bird house where we had a nice break, consuming champagne and chocolate. We carried on round the Tarn spotting quite a few different birds on the way, pointed out to us by Ken and Anne, the club experts on birds. I always thought Golden Eye was just the name of a James Bond Film but it’s also a type of duck, you learn something every day, especially walking with the club. We stopped for some lunch in an old brick building, it didn’t seem spooky to me but the conversation turned to mysterious happenings in people’s lives, near death experiences and ghosts before turning to Quantum Theory and e=mc2, it was heavy stuff. We made it back to the cars just as the rain was starting and sped off to Hayton Farm Shop. The conversation went from the sublime to the ridiculous, Quantum Theory to VI Poo and how delighted you would be to receive a bottle for Christmas, thinking about it, it could be very useful around Boxing Day, especially if you ate too many sprouts with your Christmas dinner. A lovely day, thanks to all who came along.
