B Walk

Keswick Area

Leader: Stephen Parker

15 of us departed from the Sands and headed for what was hoped for, by the walk leader, a sunny Keswick. Upon arrival in Keswick to bright blue skies if a little chilly the walk leader was glad his prayers had not been wasted 🙂.

Progress was made past the launch to Friars Crag and a photo opportunity at which point Pete gave us a little history of John Ruskin and the surrounding islands, thanks Pete, and on to the millennium stone. It was surprising to see how high the water had got and if the walk had been earlier in the week then the path may have been impassable.

Speaking of impassable paths the water was so high a little detour was required from the lakeside to meet the road up to Ashness Bridge, this involved a little scramble up to the road, without much further excitement an early lunch was taken at Ashness Bridge with fantastic views over Derwentwater, Bassenthwaite and the wind Turbines in the distance.

After lunch it was time to tackle the climb up to Walla Crag and the highpoint of the walk, which was tackled in record time due to the wind picking up and some ominous dark clouds that were forming over Skiddaw and no one wishing to get caught in anything resembling rain or worse.

After Walla Crag it was downhill, literally, all the way to Keswick at which point the café/ pub was a welcome sight and the rain that had been threatening started.

Thanks to all who came along.
