I was joined by 6 people plus 2 more from another walking group who met at the start of my walk. A promising start to the day weather wise, we made smooth progress in pleasant walking conditions. the views were amazing and the company good with lots of banter. By Maiden Moor the weather was changing, light drizzle and a cold wind. We decided to take lunch in the shelter at Dale Head tarn. Lunch was cut short a tad because proper heavy rain had now enveloped. Waterproofs were donned, and then the arduous ascent of Dale Head followed. After a more gently climb onto Hindscarth brought us to our 5th and last wainwright of the day

Martina was thrilled to have bagged 5 wainwrights taking her passed her year end target total of 50. The descent of the last part of the Hindscarth ridge on wet slippy rock was interesting to say the least with varying styles and techniques used to get the job done.

By the time we reached Little Town, darkness had over taken us, so the last section first through very boggy fields and finally a short road section was done by head torches A latish finish for this time of year. 6 of us adjourned to the Royal Oak pub for some well earned refreshments and more banter.

Thank you all who decided to join me and make this day special.

    Happy Christmas one and all

   Kathryn.
