Seventeen of us set out from Loweswater on a glorious morning for the steady, but steep, climb up Darling Fell where the ultra clear views at the top were a compensation - almost !! - for the effort of the climb. These views included the Isle of Man, and the Scottish Coast - including the distant The Mull of Galloway.

A quick - sort of !! - up and down saw us on the top of Low Fell for an early lunch - as well as the views towards Crummock Water and Buttermere. Suitably refreshed, we were ready to walk straight into the “refreshing” north breeze blowing along the ridge. The amazing views continued as we headed up to Fellbarrow, before starting our descent via Hattersgill Fell - and a quick cuppa in the sunshine - and the shelter of an old stone wall.

It was - almost - downhill all the way along various tracks, paths and quiet roads as the wintery sun headed home with us. A great day on the Fells so thank you all for your company - but just remember, you can’t always believe a walk leader who says “its all downhill from here” !!
