A Walk

Houdesteads to Greenhead

Leader: Alan Dobson

Report by

Alan Dobson

13 of us got off the bus at  Housesteads  car park  and made our way up to the fort and headed west along the the Roman Wall there were a lot of  people walking the path as the Heart foundation had a  charity fund raising walk and they were heading the same way doing  various lengths of the walk the longest being 18  miles ending at Lanercost

The weather was overcast with a cool breeze blowing from the west but as the day  progressed it got warmer and the sun eventually came out making for a lovely day . 2 swans were spotted swimming on Crag Lough- they have lived here for years , we stopped at  Sycamore Gap for as teabreak the tree looked spectacular in full leaf and then it was onto Cawfields carpark for as well earned lunch break having navigated the steep up and downs of the wall path and enjoyed the views along the way

Lauren and Christina had arrived ay Cawfields first and had kept the picnic tables for the group so a very civilized lunch break was taken, then it was onward over open countryside to Carvodon quarry and down into Greenhead for refreshments -  unfortunately the coffee shop now closes on a Sunday due to staffing issues so the pub did a  good trade refreshments  for the AB and C walking parties

Thanks to everyone who came along
