A forecast that didn’t inspire a great deal of confidence in the day but a stoic 18 turned up for a little amble from Braithwaite. Looking up toward Force Crag there was not a lot to see for the thick low cloud that pretty much engulfed everywhere, but off we went. We headed up the mine road and onto the track for Coledale Hause. We took lunch by the beck on the hause and as we did the clouds began to part giving us some great lunchtime views.
We set off toward Wandhope and I was thinking was it worth taking it in as the clag was still looming. As a couple wanted to bag it we hit the grassy summit. The view was truly spectacular. It appeared the whole of the Lake District was under cloud apart from us. Lots of photos were taken but I doubt there were any that did the scene justice. We then headed up to the summit of Crag Hill(Eel Crag) with more brilliant panoramic cloud inversions.
The tricky descent down from Crag Hill was done and soon we were on Sail. We could have gone down from here but the views were so good we headed off for Scar Crags and Causey Pike. You wouldn’t of thought it could have got any better but from Causey it was amazing. Sadly at some point we had to head down and we were soon back in the mist with still a good way back to the cars and time was getting on.
I think it was nearly 5pm as we got back to the cars so no chance of an after walk cuppa and it was getting dark. Brendan managed to raid the village shop giving them their biggest cake sales of the day. A small walk of 5 tops and 12 miles.😓 I think it was only made so long because of the amount of vehicles parked up meaning we had to park further away.👺. Or I need a new tape measure. Hope you all enjoyed what turned out an epic day with a great gang of members. See you next time.
