Well, bang goes my nice weather record. 14 setting off from the car park to start with some great views of the waterfalls. The clag got increasingly worse the closer we got to Loch Skeen. Yes there was a loch there, just because you couldn’t see it does not mean I was telling pork pies. Anyway, a couple decided not to carry on while the rest of us headed for Loch Craig Head. Finding our way around bogs in the mist. Everyone put in a great effort which saw us get onto the ridge for lunch sheltering behind the wall.
It was then around to Mid Crag. As we headed down there was a bit of a break in the weather which gave us some atmospheric (thats another word for poor) views of the Loch. We then had a lot of fun doing the beck crossing. No one could be bothered to try the new fangled walking wellies, the reason being we were already very wet. So it was pretty much a paddle job. As we retraced our steps back down the Tail path the weather improved but all a bit too late.
A short walk but still ended up a bit more of a challenge than anticipated. Thanks to everyone who kept going and I hope you got something out of the day apart from tea and cake in Moffat, which was very nice. Winter is coming this could be repeated a few more times yet.
Regards Pete
