Carlisle & District Rambling & Fellwalking Club
Walk & Event Reports
There was 22 of us on Wednesday setting off into St Johns in the Vale for our walk. We walked across fields for a while, with very few stiles, mainly just easygates which speeds things up a bit, passed close by Tewet Tarn and eventually made our way to Low Rigg. On the way there we passed a chap sitting resting with a couple of spaniels, who happened to be Kerry Irving, author of the famous books about Max the Miracle dog, one or two of the group were delighted to engage in a friendly conversation with him. The rest of the walk went according to plan, and was most enjoyable, as the weather was perfect, lots of sunshine but also some fluffy clouds so that it didn't get too hot. The views surrounding us of lots of the well known fells was astounding. We carried on till we arrived at Castlerigg Stone Circle, were the surrounding views seemed even more perfect, then we returned to the cars and made our way to Basecamp where we were able to sit outside at tables in the sunshine and enjoy refreshments.
