Barbara's Report

8 intrepid walkers set off from Stavely to Windermere  Lovely sunny day with a cooling breeze a lot of the time.  With help from navigators Gill and Neil we all arrived at our destination safe and sound.  Despite the low level, we had some great views.  A lot of laughs along the way and scrummy scones and tea at the finish - a good day out

John's Report

32 on the coach today, for a lovely outing to Windermere. Seventeen decided on the B walk and we soon found ourselves on the top of Orrest Head. My apologies to all those on the walk for our late arrival back in Windermere, which meant we didn’t have time for our usual refreshments. We did have a few delays on the way. We saw a sorry looking bunch of ramblers coming towards us and it turned out to be the C Party heading for Windermere. Shortly after we came across a sheep which appeared to be in some distress and seemed to have a large object hanging out of it. As the farm was not too far away I went and told the farmer and took him across the field to the poor creature. It turned out he had given all his sheep an injection that morning and it was just the after effects of the drug, which would soon wear off.  As to the large object, it turned out to be one of two, in the farmers own words and I quote, “he’s a big boy” and he certainly was. We were also delayed a little bit by picking up litter. I’ve started to carry a bin liner when I go walking as I find the litter I come across really annoying. During the course of this walk we collected quite a bit, half a dozen plastic bottles and lots of food wrappers. It’s something I think we should all do. Somehow or other near the end of the walk we managed to lose two of our party but we eventually found them sitting outside the pub in Windermere. They were the only ones who managed to get a drink at the end of the walk. An eventful walk, great views, lovely weather and great company. Thanks to all for coming.
