Unfortunately, due to flooding in Grasmere, the coach had to be cancelled today but we still managed to fit in a walk. Twelve turned up at the Sands and we set off to Gelt Woods, always a good standby. Exactly where we were going we had no idea, it was a walk done “on the hoof”, we made it up as we went along and what a lovely walk it was. We made our way through Gelt Woods, stopping to admire the wonderful Middle Gelt Bridge, a magnificent piece of engineering, not surprising really, it was built by a John McKay. There was a little shrine under the bridge, I’ve no idea who it was for but whoever it was obviously liked a drop of vodka, perhaps someone can enlighten me. We ended up going through Castle Carrock, Jockey Shield, Talkin Village and arrived at Talkin Tarn for lunch. Suitably refreshed we made our way along some lovely paths and ended up back in Gelt Woods and miraculously ended up back at the cars. It was then off to Hayton Farm Shop. A lovely walk and great weather, not a drop of rain. Many thanks to all those that came along and to our walk leaders, Stephen, Frank and Uncle Tom Cobbley and all. It was just that sort of day
