B Walk: Loadpot Hill - Steel Knotts

7.5 Miles Grade 2

Leader: Pete Rutland

Report & Photos by Pete Rutland

By most standards a tough B walk today, I think all that took part would agree. After walking Steel Knotts ridge we had a steep climb to gain the high ground onto the Roman Road on High Street. Having been on Wether Hill we sheltered amongst the walls of the Peat Bogs to keep out of the bitter wind where we had lunch.

The cloud was thick so the views not what we hoped for but sometimes you just have to embrace the elements and take whats dished out to you, and thats just what the 11 strong group did. It was then onto Loadpot Hill where we didn’t hang about. Heading down to Bonscale Pike the cloud cleared and some good views were taken in on the summit while enjoying a warming drink of Ginger Wine.

It was then down via the path under Swarth Fell which took us back to Steel Knotts and onto the cars.

The only disagreement of the day was just how far we had  walked. Various devises gave various mileage for the days efforts. These ranged from 7 and a half miles to somewhere over 10. For what its worth I think it was just over 8, but does it really matter when you end the day in Granny Dowbecks drinking tea and scoffing various varieties of cakes.

Thanks to everyone who pitched up, sorry the weather wasn’t better but all in all good day out.
