Barrow & Outerside

8 Miles Grade 2

Leader: Geoff Entwistle

Report by Geoff Entwistle

Five members enjoyed a splendid day on the fells west of Keswick. Having managed to find a parking place in Braithwaite we gently ascended the north east ridge to the summit of Barrow (1494'), and enjoyed the views of the Newlands Valley and the northern fells. After a descent to Barrow Door a steeper ascent took us to the summit of Outerside (1863'), another superb viewpoint and lunch stop. Continuing briefly to the west we descended to the old miners' track, which we took us to Stoneycroft. The walk ended by following the path by Newlands Beck back to Braithwaite and welcome refreshments in the Coledale Inn.
