Another not very promising weather forecast but this time it proved to be pretty accurate. The rain started shortly after the group of eleven club walkers left the coach to begin the long steady climb up to West fell and any views disappeared into the mist and mizzle. Despite this spirits remained high and a reasonable pace was set. Unfortunately it wasn’t possible to outpace the weather. Reaching the summit of the Calf there was a brief respite and not so distant views of the M6 came into sight. As always there was plenty of conversation to lift the gloom although the group were not convinced by the leader’s confident assertion that the Howgill top “Winder” was a favourite spot of George Formby who, whilst litter picking on it’s summit, was inspired to pen his most famous song (work it out for yourself)

A final slippery ascent into Sedbergh was made and tea and refreshments taken. Thanks to every one who joined the walk.
