A grim looking scene greeted us on arrival at the bridge over Grainsgill. Not only was the weather looking pretty awful but there was lots of vehicles belonging to The Cave/Mine Rescue Team. It appears that not only do people get stuck on the top of hills but also deep inside them. As it transpired they were just on a major Exercise, so there was no one hurt underground needing their attention. Talking to them it seemed that they thought we were a bit stupid going uphill where it was wet, cold and very windy, whilst they would be inside the hill out of the wind, warm but only a little wet. Matter of opinion there I think.

Anyway the stupid 11 headed on up to Lingy hut where a cup of tea was taken. Looking out of the window at the conditions you had to think that the Cavemen below might be right. But on we marched taking in the heights of Englands newest Mountain on Miller Moss. Then onto Great Lingy Hill, not that you had much clue where you were as you couldn’t see much. On approaching High Pike the strengthening wind started to blow away the clag to give us some views . Unfortunately it was that strong it was blowing us away as well. On the top of High Pike we cowered down in the shelter for a very quick lunch.

It was then downwards, trying hard not to take off, toward Brandy Gill. At this point some of the group went on down Brandy gill and some wanted to take in Carrock Fell to get some flying practise in. Ironically  at this point of the day the sky cleared and the last little part of the walk was done in rather more pleasant weather. Eitherway it was then back to the cars and Cock lakes Cafe for a well earned cuppa.

Considering the day we had ,we did great getting it done. Thanks to all for coming and where else can you get free flying lessons.
