Lingy Hut - High Pike

After a 40 minute walk from the car the group gathered at Lingy Hut as anticipated. On opening the door there were two unexpected ‘Randoms’ already tucked up for the night and it was hardly 8pm. For those who wanted to come but couldn’t it was probably to your benefit as the only place left to put your bed had you turned up, was on the roof. After some brief hellos to out new friends and a cuppa we left them to it for an hours walk around to Miller Moss and take in the sunset, which considering the cloud conditions was pretty good.

We returned to the hut (waking our new mountain buddies again) just before dark and proceeded with the all important task of having a nose bag. This concluded there was some time spent having a good natter about various subjects and considering what games to play, these unfortunately had to shelved for the sake of our new friends sanity and their obsession with going to bed early. So as it was, and growing darker by the minute we got our head torches and headed out for High Pike. The cloud was not low enough to spoil the walk but we couldn’t see the stars and had only slight glimpses of the full moon from the occasional parting clouds. That said the walk was done in great spirits.

There was no rain only a little wind and a lot of Grouse flying about.

From High Pike it was back to the hut where the two residents were well a kip but soon roused again by the happy Carlisle Group. Giving them our apologies, again, but by now not really caring it was beer, ginger wine or whatever time. It was then time for us all to turn in. It was all very snug and I think John thought his luck had changed when I accidentally stroked his leg. To be honest it was a pretty restless night, the snoring wasn’t bad, it was just a bit cold as I felt obliged to sleep positioned as the draft excluder at the door end. Consequently I was up at 05.00 with the kettle on. We departed at about six making our way back to the cars. The walk down the hill was a really nice early morning stroll.

Weather wasn’t perfect but all in all a great night out and thanks to the guys for pitching up on this one,

will have to do it again.
