The A walk was cancelled due to the bad weather forecast, and at 9am it wasn't looking too good for the B's with fairly heavy rain and strong winds at the Sands. However all temptation to go back home and curl up with a book was resisted and 6 hardy souls set off to Bassenthwaite village, where we arrived to find it had stopped raining. We walked the 1.75 miles towards Orthwaite before turning onto a track with superb views towards Bassenthwaite Lake. We soon turned off this track and climbed up to Brockle Crag continuing on a delightful grassy sward with fine views towards Dash falls and Skiddaw. On reaching Burntod gill the wind seemed to get stronger as it was funnelled up the valley, but we pressed on and arrived at Trusmadoor after some interesting manoeuvers crossing and recrossing the gill because at two places the path had been washed away. After lunch we were blown through the trusmadoor pass and contoured round the left hand side of the fell until reaching the path back to Orthwaite. The wind was now in our faces and there were a few spots of stinging rain but only for a couple of minutes and we carried on until we reached the road along which we returned to Bassenthwaite village. Yes it was windy but it stayed dry and there was even some blue sky at times. Half an hour after arriving back in Carlisle it was raining again so we had had the best of the day.
