There is only one word to describe today’s walk, fantastic. Everything about it was just fantastic. The group, the weather, visibility, the views and the countryside in general, they were all fantastic. It took us quite a while to get to Windermere as there was a big cycle race going on which slowed up the traffic quite a bit. It might have slowed up the traffic but the sight of those bulging Lycra clad thighs seemed to send the heart rate, of the ladies present, soaring. I have to say it did nothing for me whatsoever. We finally arrived in Windermere and quickly made our way up Orrest Head. The views were wonderful and it was then on to School Knott, crossing the railway line on the way, for some more wonderful views. We had lunch at the tarn then set off on the Dales Way for Brant Fell. Along the way we had to cross a field which was clearly marked, bull in field but we saw no sign of it and made it safely across. In my opinion the views from Brant Fell were the best of the day, absolutely stunning, It was then on to Post Knott, our final viewpoint, earlier in the day a Lancaster Bomber had flown over but when we arrived at Post Knott we had the unexpected pleasure of a flypast by the Red Arrows, it just rounded the day off perfectly. It was then back to Windermere for some well earned refreshment. Apologies for getting the mileage wrong, I had it down as 8 miles but according to Joan’s little gadget it was 9.5, I’m not infallible after all. A fantastic day, thanks to everyone who came along.
