B Walk

Bassenthwaite Village to Dash Falls

6 Miles Grade 3

Leader: Ian Rowley

Report & Photos by Ian Rowley

John wisely abandoned the A walk which left six fellow travelers to brave the wild weather and head off to Bassenthwaite Village, the start point for the B walk.
A quick conference decided we try a shorter route up to Dash falls and then:   “we’ll decide what to do from there”
With the wind behind us the three miles up to the falls took us about 15 minutes ( it really was that windy!)
Once there we were greeted by the amazing spectacle of the waterfall going into reverse with spray driven almost horizontally for a hundred yards or so. With the wind funneling through the gap between the fellsides it was s almost impossible to stand upright as evidenced by the few shaky photos hastily taken. A brief respite was taken behind a wall and we decided the safest route was to reverse our steps. Heather, as always the best equipped walker, donned protective goggles and for the rest of us it was hoods up and heads down as we hurled ourselves against the wind to try and descend. Three more much tougher miles saw us back at the cars then it was off to Craggs restaurant for bowls of warming soup just as the skies began to clear!

Honourable mentions then for Christine, Heather, Stephen, Bernard and guest walker Afsagh.
