B Walk

Brampton Area

7 Miles Grade 3

Leader: Stephen Parker

Report by Stephen Parker

With the weather forecast for Sunday not being the best it was pleasing to see 3 hardy souls waiting fro the walk leader at the Sands, including Barbara on her very first car walk.
Unlike November the weather wasn't as biblical in nature and we set off from Coanwood at a brisk pace, at times I thought we were about to break into a light jog but unlike  November once we reached Haltwhistle we were able to continue on the route as intended, even if the leader had forgot about the additional stile, there were 2 instead of 1 maybe the farmer had added this since the recce. Once the stiles had been negotiated and despite the recent mild weather there was still plenty of mud to keep the purists happy, the only tricky bit being the horses we ran into in a field and discussions were held with what a group of horses were called, was it a herd??? flock???.
Progress was the made to the lunch stop beside the river, after lunch we set off for Featherstone POW camp and could see the utter devastation caused by the force of water back in November and swift progress was made to Lambley Viaduct and once up on the viaduct a wonderful panoramic view of the surrounding valley was visible.
We then made progress back to the cars and headed to Hayton Farm Shop for refreshments, thanks to all who came along.
