What a change to write about a beautiful, crystal clear, sunny day instead of the ghastly rubbish that has passed itself off as weather that we have endured so frequently this winter. 39 on the bus to Ennerdale Bridge,  9 of those ventured onto the A walk.  We set off at a brisk pace to the Lake and then round it to Bowness Knott.  Here it was along the road for a short while, then up the steep path that follows Rake Beck in all its twists and turns,  past the Wolf trap,  a short but easy scramble past the waterfall (there could be a minority report on the words “short” and “easy”) and then onto the summit where we had lunch.  The views were amazing:  the Isle of Man and southern Scotland to the West, and almost the whole of the Lake District to the  South, East and North.  The really fit,  eager ones – Kathi, Lauren, Ron and Alan – did a sprint up to the summit of Starling Dodd, while the lazy ones – inc. yours sinc., - had what we persuaded ourselves was a well-deserved rest at the bottom. This gave me an opportunity to play with my new toy – a Garmin G.P.S. – and I found that we were definitely somewhere in Western Europe! Back through the forest,  where Kathi told us that it was the first forest she had been in, so quite an experience for her. A lovely walk, great company, thanks to everyone for coming.
